“Am I willing to pay the price for my dream?”
He went on to say that every journey toward a dream is personal, and as a result, so is the price that must be paid to achieve it. Taking hold of a dream means letting go of other opportunities. Along the way, you’ll be forced to make difficult sacrifices. Regardless of the unique costs you will have to pay, all dreams carry the price of overcoming fears, dealing with criticism, and working hard.
This week has been particularly difficult in my pursuit of “my dream” but as I’ve moved through confronting reality with all of its challenges and fears, there was an anchor before me. My anchor was created several years ago when I took myself through a coaching process which ask the question:
What am I unwilling to give up in order to reach my dream?
The answer shined brilliantly before me… I was (and am) willing to give up everything except my positive relationship with God and my family to achieve my dream. What worth will houses, cars and clothes have when I am old and am looking back on my life?
This week as I struggled with difficult decisions and sacrifices that had to be made, the answer to this question which was asked and answered so long ago was my guiding star. It has given me the tenacity to keep going in the face of extreme challenges. Win or lose, when I am old and looking back on my life, I will at least know that I gave it all I had!
