Me & That Vacuum Cleaner Really Went At It (All The Time Thinking Who Does She Think She Is?)

Image

“For as long as I can remember, he said, I’ve always been an entrepreneur. I’m just a natural starter.  I’m visionary, I can just see it; so I go do it.”  Well that’s a great natural gift.  The problem sets in when they “just go do it.”

Entrepreneurs usually are natural visionaries.  They are global spectrum thinkers.  The moment they conceive an idea they see it all the way to the end.  Often they see it before anyone else does; it’s like their minds work in a state of natural combustion.  The issue arises in the speed at which they often move.  Even while the thought is taking form they shift from neutral to drive and they GO full speed ahead!  Most often they end up with a lot of production volume and poor cash flow due to shabby systems and poor management.  So now they are trapped!  They are so busy “keeping up” to meet the demands of their clients, they have no time to address the issues that are creating company bleed (the loss of profits.)  CoachesBelieveWhenYouDont

If it sounds like I know what I’m talking about; it’s because I do.  I’ve been right there in that same trap where sadly many entrepreneurs exist today.  It took me several years to find the answer and change my then “current reality.”  The answer came when I reluctantly hired a coach knowing full well I WAS NOT COACHABLE.

Did I say RELUCTANTLY?  You see my belief was this:  “I’m doing my best.  I don’t see how a coach is going to help me.  It’s not like I’m not an accountable person.”

At the time of this event I was a real estate professional.  I had built a team of other agents to work with me.  We were doing quite a bit of business (although more leads were dying on the vine then getting turned into closed deals.)  I was frustrated.  I hired a coach for $1000 a month.  That’s good money!  Several months into the coaching program we had clearly laid out the daily action items I was to perform to hit the production goal I set for myself.

As you probably know, it’s just a numbers game.  I knew my conversion ratios and my closing ratios so I was smugly on my way to achieving my goal.

For several weeks however, I had not been focusing on my daily action items and was not being accountable to my schedule.  I had a lot going on and I was erasing things but not replacing them.  Upon the second week of this behavior my coach asked me the following question:

Lisa, what would happen if your entire team began acting the way you are?”

I said “What do you mean?”  She said “Well if they just stopped lead generating?”  Immediately I jumped to my own defense!  I said (very sarcastically) “Michaelann!  I’M DOING MY BEST!”  A silent moment passed and she gently said:

“I know you are… but is YOUR best THE best?”  Well NOW I WAS REALLY HOT AROUND THE COLLAR!  I said:  “WELL I’VE DONE 102 DEALS THIS YEAR!”  Again, a short pause and a quite answer.  “I know she said;  I’ve done 732.”

At that I had to get off the phone!  I hung that phone up and grabbed my vacuum cleaner.  (I never vacuum, I hate to vacuum) but I VACUUMED!  All the while I’m thinking “How dare she?  Who does she think she is?  She has no idea what my life is like.”  And then it hit me… It was like someone had turned on a brilliant light!

My best was NOT the best…

For the first time in my life, I WAS COACHABLE!  I could finally see the value in that $1,000 a month.  Morning came and a phone call was immediately placed to St. Petersburg Florida… It went like this:

“Michaelann, I’m sorry and thank you for showing me that I am coachable.”

After that, we worked through the issues that had blocked my dedication, re-ran the numbers to make up for the lost time and it was onward and upward from there.

This experience was a great change-agent for me.  It is one of the main reasons I coach entrepreneurs today.  I know the money they are leaving on the table; the opportunities that are dying on the vine.

It is true that “He that is taught only by himself has a fool for a master.”  Ben Jonson

Ignite Your Personal Power!

Image

Where your focus goes, your energy flows”… Walt Emerson.  I have experimented on his words and can attest they are true!  Could this be the reason we seem to be short of energy most days?  Because it is constantly flowing out of us in a million different directions?  personal power

I believe that we as women are constantly receiving the subtle message that more is required from us.  In many cases we are managing the finances, have primary responsibility for the care and nurture of the children, planning the family vacations, keeping the house, doing the laundry, the grocery shopping, tending the pets, preparing the meals, the yard work and in some cases even running a home based business!

When is enough ever enough?  When we recognize and mobilize our own inner voice that’s when!  Now I’m not talking about selfishness; I’m talking about high levels of achievement on your own terms!

Everyone’s definition of success is different. To some it may be becoming a New York Times best-selling author.  To someone else it may be being a good mother.  To yet another it may be living an authentic life or being a good daughter to aging parents.

My definition of success is achieving your goals (whatever they may be) on your own terms with an authentic expression of who you are.  With so many voices talking to us; it is sometimes hard to hear the most important one… the one who really does have all the answers… our own voice!

It is possible to live a joyful energetic life; counter balancing the myriad of responsibilities we have.  We can even make more money in our businesses if we choose to!

The secret is living a life by design!  A life YOU design and that’s what igniting your personal power is all about!

I’m sharing my journey and the way I achieved my life by design at the upcoming Interactive Women’s Conference at Boise Centre on the Grove, May 11, 2013.  Boise Idaho.  I hope to meet you there!

Until then, Onward & Upward My Friends!  Lisa

A Carrot, A Stick or A Drill Sergeant?

Image

Fulfilling an entrepreneur or sales position of any kind is no easy task.  Half the battle is knowing what your tasks are!  Having a great plan is not enough.  You’ve got to have a great plan and work that great plan consistently every day!mm-drill-sgt_132376c

Last week I found myself completely derailed on one of my health goals.  As I  talk with my coach I discovered that when I began I had that goal tied to a purpose. During that time I did great!  Once the purpose was removed I let up on the committment, pulled out of the process, starting beating my head up against a wall and wondering why I needed so much “will-power” to get it done!  We all know “will-power” will get you going but it won’t keep you going.  In order to get realigned with my health goal I had to put another purpose in place… another BIG WHY for Lisa!  Once that was done; I am happy to say committment has once again taken over and I’m back on track.

Many of you know I firmly believe coaching.  Coaching others & receiving coaching from others.  Currently I am receiving coaching in the following areas:  Health, Speaking, Writing, Sales and even coaching on being a great coach.  My “coaching” coach is a world-class coach, Mr. Ed DeCosta.   Here is what he ask the other day:

“What do you need, a carrot, a stick or a drill sergeant?”  After my recent experience with my health coach I’ve learned I NEED A CARROT!

What do you need to be impeccable with your word, to honor your daily agenda and to work your great plan consistently?  I would appreciate hearing your experiences.

I’m Out

Image

tiredDay 50 of my Productivity Challenge and I’M BEAT so tonight I’ll just speak from the heart.  Sorry no profound thoughts to share.

Fortunately for me, I have taken the time on the front end to figure out why I want to venture into this new business in the first place.  So even though life feels all up hill in the midst of the launch stage, I still remember what I’ve set out to do and that is what keeps me going.

All my mentors have taught me about “the natural law of rhythm.”  They’ve said that when you feel you are at a rhythmic low, you should stop doing.  Don’t stop being but definitely stop doing.  The big mistake I made this weekend is that when I started to feel mentally exhausted I just pushed through it.  I felt the rhythmic low but I was too stubborn to listen.  That cost me two days of lowered productivity!

Lesson learned… I’m hitting the sack now.  I’ll try again tomorrow.  Sometimes that’s all we can do.

Not a Square To Spare!

Not A Square tp Spare!

When I saw this “funny”  I sat and stared at it for the longest time.  Not because it was a really funny looking, freaked out guy, caught with his pants down, but because of its message.  I just couldn’t decide if I agreed with it. “Never start a project unless all resources are available.”  What about stepping forward in faith?  What about growing your wings on the way down?  What then of the law of attraction?  What about the things that I know without a doubt are real?  What about the successes I’ve personally experienced even when I pulled the trigger without knowing beforehand where all the resources would come from? Top producers seem to inherently know you can’t wait for all conditions to be right.  Sometimes the right conditions come because you put yourself out there! After wrestling with the question for several days I’ve decided that I agree with the statement… SOMETIMES! In cases of a solid business plan and customer support system you’ve got to have your resources in place.  You can’t, however, wait until you feel like you know enough or you develop enough confidence or you’ve practiced enough to be great!  Those thing come in the doing.  Once you have a plan and your support systems are in place GO FOR IT!  It’s in the putting yourself out there, even when you are imperfect that you receive the opportunities, you meet the right people, you get new ideas, and you begin to succeed! Onward & Upward My Friends, Lisa
