What Would It Mean In YOUR Life If You Could Do This Too?

One of the most helpful lessons I learned in my life is to not be emotionally attached to the outcome of my efforts. I know you just read the last line here but did you comprehend it? Think about that!  What would it mean to you in your life if you could give it all you’ve got and then let it go?Health

When this idea was first presented to me I began working to incorporate it into my life; I recall it acting as a great filter and being very effective in helping me to let go of stress.  An example of the application of this executive coaching concept in my life played out like this:

It had been an extremely long day in real estate.  I was working on a transaction that had been very difficult to put together.  Things had been touch and go with this deal for the past several days.  This transaction stood to Net me about $12,000 and it was during a time that I could really use the income.  That evening I was watching the Yankees play and hanging the clothes that had accumulated in the chair in the corner of my bedroom all week when I realized my gut was in knots.  I was really worried about this deal falling!  I asked myself this question:

Have you done all you can do to make this thing go?

The answer was NO!  I could send one more email offering one final perspective in the negotiation.  I immediately dropped the clothes I was hanging, went to my office and sent the email.  As I entered back into my bedroom, turned the game back on and started again hanging the clothes my mind was at peace.  There was an over-riding feeling that was speaking to me saying:

“You’ve done your best; now forget the rest.”

Now in my daily efforts; I have with me a great sense of peace no matter what it is I am in the midst of.  After all I can do, I let it go and expect great things!  I hope you can too.

My favorite quote was said by Erma Bombeck… “When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, “I used everything you gave me!”

Yep… that about sums it up.  That’s all I have to say.

Ignite Your Personal Power!

Where your focus goes, your energy flows”… Walt Emerson.  I have experimented on his words and can attest they are true!  Could this be the reason we seem to be short of energy most days?  Because it is constantly flowing out of us in a million different directions?  personal power

I believe that we as women are constantly receiving the subtle message that more is required from us.  In many cases we are managing the finances, have primary responsibility for the care and nurture of the children, planning the family vacations, keeping the house, doing the laundry, the grocery shopping, tending the pets, preparing the meals, the yard work and in some cases even running a home based business!

When is enough ever enough?  When we recognize and mobilize our own inner voice that’s when!  Now I’m not talking about selfishness; I’m talking about high levels of achievement on your own terms!

Everyone’s definition of success is different. To some it may be becoming a New York Times best-selling author.  To someone else it may be being a good mother.  To yet another it may be living an authentic life or being a good daughter to aging parents.

My definition of success is achieving your goals (whatever they may be) on your own terms with an authentic expression of who you are.  With so many voices talking to us; it is sometimes hard to hear the most important one… the one who really does have all the answers… our own voice!

It is possible to live a joyful energetic life; counter balancing the myriad of responsibilities we have.  We can even make more money in our businesses if we choose to!

The secret is living a life by design!  A life YOU design and that’s what igniting your personal power is all about!

I’m sharing my journey and the way I achieved my life by design at the upcoming Interactive Women’s Conference at Boise Centre on the Grove, May 11, 2013.  Boise Idaho.  I hope to meet you there!

Until then, Onward & Upward My Friends!  Lisa

Productivity Rule #9

Does anyone ever do anything great alone? The Law Of The Inner Circle, in The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, claims our potential is determined by those closest to us. As I reflect on any past successes I have enjoyed, truly they were because of the people who have come along side and helped me get there. Achieving greatness in your organization takes a village.  So how do you find your village?  You don’t!  You will have to create it!Networking

It is commonly known that we attract who we are.  “Birds of a feather flock together.”  So the first obvious thing to do is to take inventory of your life; make any course corrections you need to in order to become the type of person you desire to attract.  Many people see this as a process, I however, believe it can also be an event when and if you have the right “why” behind it.  (I call this “getting your mind right.”)

Once you have gotten your mind right, have a vision of who you are, what you do and who your target audience is just go out and make friends!  Show up everywhere your target audience will be.  Remember “birds of a feather…”

Seek to build relationships with those who add value to the lives of others.  They will also add value to you.  Seek to serve those whom you want to work with.  Look for ways you can add value to their lives and focus on follow-up.  If you make a committment, keep that committment.  It will say a lot about who you are.

Seek relationships also with people whose strengths are in areas of your weakness.  They will bring huge value to you and help you get where you desire to go so much faster and more efficiently than you ever imagined possible.  Chances are your strengths will add great value to them as well.

If you have taken the time to align your actions with your values, get clear on your message and have prepared to deliver a world-class product or service then get out there and network!  The opportunity is on its way!  Remember what they say:

“Luck = Opportunity & Preparation Meeting!”

Who Are You? Really… Do YOU even know?

Having grown up in an environment that was not conducive to the development of a positive self-image or self-esteem; I understand first hand the importance of both.  Self Image and Self-Esteem are often considered one in the same when in fact they are two very different concepts. Self Image is how you view yourself.  Self esteem is how you feel about yourself.  It is possible to view yourself in a positive way; being aware of your talents and abilities but to feel negatively about your worthiness, integrity or capacity.

A negative self-image or esteem will stop us dead in our tracks when striving for any level of achievement.  When asked, employers state what they are most seeking are individuals who are capable, confident and good with people.  A positive self-image and self-esteem are the corner-stone of both.

I love this video starring a lead character “Marcel” who has both a positive self-image and self-esteem.  I have shared it with every teenager I know and many friends who sometimes struggle with a negative view or opinion of themselves.

What a great message she sends when she says “compared to what?”

All throughout my childhood I never felt very loveable or capable.  As I grew up I started to question where some of my beliefs about myself had come from.  What I discovered was: Not only could I not prove my beliefs about myself but I could disprove them!  I went from an insecure, disengaged young woman to a confident go-getter almost in the blink of an eye!

What that experience taught me is you are what you think you are!  You can achieve or not achieve whatever you think you can.

If you are in a place seeking to expand your level of awareness and create a new reality for yourself (as I did) ask yourself these questions:

1.  What do I believe about myself?  Write it down.

2.  Where did that believe come from?

3.  Is it true?  (PROVE IT)  You will be surprised how often you can’t!

4.  Once you cannot prove it; disprove it… then replace the old story with a new belief and anchor that belief with proof.  You’ll be surprised how easy it will be.

It is possible to change your story, but only you can.  I know!  I changed mine!

10 Things That Make Over-Achievers Weird

So you’re called an overachiever… should you be offended?  It is true that “overachievers” don’t live their lives like the majority.  In our society “different” often is translated into “weird.”  After dueling considering the question, I’ve decided I’m okay with it!  Call me weird!  I know I’m different and that’s just the way I like it!

10 Things Over Achievers Do:

1. They make lists and check things off.  Often these lists are organized in order of priority with assigned completion dates.

2. They viciously guard their time.  They may appear that they have no time for you.  This is a common misconception.  They have plenty of time for you but they do plan their days in advance (often several weeks out.)  Scheduling is a very important element to their productivity.  They would never expect you to drop everything for them and they appreciate it when you show the same courtesy when possible.

3. They are not afraid to make complete fools of themselves!   They love accountability so often they will freely tell the world their goals & dreams.  They know if they don’t hit them they will have given it their best shot.  It doesn’t bother them to admit they are still learning, stretching and growing.

4.  They openly shares their screw ups!  Because they are always stretching out of their comfort zone and moving into the unknown, they often have more failure than others.  The way they see it it’s just part of succeeding.  They fail fast and fail often, but they are okay with this!  They see failures as feedback and each failure gets them closer to success!

5. They have an intense need for freedom.  Over-achievers often refuse to work just for money.  Sound weird?  Well it kind’of is; since work is commonly thought of as the means to provide.  Over-achievers however, understand what their time is worth, they desire to make a difference doing something that will make a difference.  They seek to work in arena’s that give them that opportunity on a larger scale.

6.  They work around energy not time.  Many entrepreneurs will inherently understand this statement.  In many cases this is why they are entrepreneurs.  Overachievers seem to be more closely connected to the Universal Law of Rhythm.  They feel their rhythmic  highs and lows and create in bursts instead of steady flows.

7.  They are hugely learning based.  Nothing is more valuable to an over-achiever than knowledge.  You will often see an overachiever (if they do go to work for or with someone else) take a position that pays less than what they could earn somewhere else.  They will sacrifice the money to spend their time where they will learn, grow, contribute and achieve the most.

8.  They are agents of change.  They are never satisfied with mediocrity or the status quo.  They are leaders.  Leaders understand that to grow you must change.  Managers seek to maintain a process.  Leaders seek to improve a process.  To improve you must change.

9.  They think they’re funny.  They see the humor in all their big dreams and aspirations.  They know they are marching to the beat of a drum most people don’t hear and believe it or not; they are okay with that too!  They don’t take themselves too seriously.  For them it’s all about making a positive difference and seeing what they can achieve.

10.  They appear overly confident.  The reason many over-achievers “appear” this way is because they truly have very few limiting beliefs about not only what is possible, but what is possible for them and for everyone else on the planet.  They truly believe in their own potential and the potential of other people.

The biggest thing that gets an overachiever down is that they know everyone can; but they see that not everyone will.

Results Don’t Lie

Don’t you just love those friends that will tell you the absolute truth?  Not in a mean-spirited way but with “care-frontation?”  If we are to ever achieve greatness in our individual journeys we must have those people in our lives.

Brian Tracy said: “One of the best uses of your time is to increase your competence in your key results areas.”

As I considered this statement in my own career I came up with a list of my key results areas.  They are:  1. Speaking, 2. Writing, 3. Creating and 4. Training.   Recognizing the truth in the statement “you must learn more before you can earn more,” I devote two hours of each day increasing my competency in these areas.  I research, I write and I rehearse.  My intention is to turn information into transformation.learn-to-earn-logo-192x300

Where would you like to transform yourself?  What are your key results areas and what do you do to increase your competency and hone your craft?

If you are struggling to find the answers finish these statements:  I am… I do… For who… so that they can… and become…

I would love to hear from you.
