Ignite Your Personal Power!


Where your focus goes, your energy flows”… Walt Emerson.  I have experimented on his words and can attest they are true!  Could this be the reason we seem to be short of energy most days?  Because it is constantly flowing out of us in a million different directions?  personal power

I believe that we as women are constantly receiving the subtle message that more is required from us.  In many cases we are managing the finances, have primary responsibility for the care and nurture of the children, planning the family vacations, keeping the house, doing the laundry, the grocery shopping, tending the pets, preparing the meals, the yard work and in some cases even running a home based business!

When is enough ever enough?  When we recognize and mobilize our own inner voice that’s when!  Now I’m not talking about selfishness; I’m talking about high levels of achievement on your own terms!

Everyone’s definition of success is different. To some it may be becoming a New York Times best-selling author.  To someone else it may be being a good mother.  To yet another it may be living an authentic life or being a good daughter to aging parents.

My definition of success is achieving your goals (whatever they may be) on your own terms with an authentic expression of who you are.  With so many voices talking to us; it is sometimes hard to hear the most important one… the one who really does have all the answers… our own voice!

It is possible to live a joyful energetic life; counter balancing the myriad of responsibilities we have.  We can even make more money in our businesses if we choose to!

The secret is living a life by design!  A life YOU design and that’s what igniting your personal power is all about!

3 Minutes of Regret


seedling-300x285Every new idea or dream is like a seed.  At the beginning of the year I spent several days going back through my journals, goals and vision.  I read all the way to 2009 in an effort to connect with my purpose and gain clarity around my vision.  What I found was that I had known my purpose FOR YEARS!  My heart was heavy with regret and I heard my inner voice asking “Why? Why didn’t you pull the trigger on the achievement of my dreams years ago?”  I gave myself three minutes of regret time and then I started  looking for the lessons.

Here is what I learned:

1.  Every new idea is like a seed. All seeds that grow have an incubation and gestation period. That is what these past years have been for me, my incubation and gestation period.

2.  The more in touch you are with your life’s purpose and the more clarity you have around your vision, the shorter the incubation and gestation time will be.

3.  Having clarity allows you to pull the trigger sooner to launch your dreams and you are more prepared to recognize and seize opportunities that come your way.

Clarity of purpose and vision insures that your seed will grow quickly and grow strong!  It’s a grand accelerator!

Productivity Rule #5 – Layout Your GOALS!


Strategic-Planning-revIf you don’t know where you want to go, how will you know if you get there?  All high level strategic planning begins with taking a good hard look at your values, your purpose and most importantly your vision for your future.  This is a journey and your challenge is to get from where you are today to where you want to be in five years.

There will be many paths you can take as you head out on your journey and many opportunities will come your way.  They key to arriving safely where you really wanted to go is to have extreme clarity around where it is you really want to go.  You don’t have to worry right now about how you will get there just know where you want to get to.  Setting goals and assigning daily action items is the largest determining factor of your success or your failure.

Here’s how I do it:

1.  I write my vision of what my perfect life will look like five years from today when I get where I want to go.

2.  I determine what I need to do first in order to begin to achieve the vision I have.  That becomes my One Main Objective for the year.

3.  I write down three main goals that, if successfully completed, will insure that I accomplish my one main objective.

4.  I write five strategies for each of my three main goals to support the achievement of those goals.

From those five strategies I create my high level activities for each day.  They are my action items that I complete and measure daily.  Statistics show that what gets measured gets done so it is imperative to measure your daily action items.

Now the fun begins!  We can just go out and do what our goal sheet tells us to do!  (Follow our daily agenda)  If we have put the right strategies in place and are consistently completing our daily action items we can move forward with confident expectations.  That’s how I do it.  I would love to hear your goal setting process.

A wise man once said: To live a life of achievement and fulfillment your days would be broken into three parts.  Every 24 hours would encompass 8 hours of work, 8 hours of play and 8 hours of sleep.With my new year unfolding before me I am finding this to be true.  As I reflected on the several years past I found myself asking the same question over & over…

“How is it that I never achieved that?” 

One example of this is clearly graphed on my Medifast goal page.  For two years my goal has been to achieve a body weight of 140 lbs.  How is it that I never achieved that in all this time?  The answer came as I reflected on my daily agenda.  My intentions were there in BIG BOLD LETTERS!  Monday through Friday from 7:00 to 8:00 AM it says WORK OUT  yet the action item to insure success was completed only about 9% of the time.

As I pondered this I realized the problem.  This task was created based on a goal in my mind but that goal was never connected to a purpose.  With no purpose in sight, there was committment to the goal or the task.  WOW!  Now I get it!

Realizing this I immediately began to question myself.  Why do you want to work out?  I quickly realized that I don’t want to, but I need to!  This past year has presented some health issues that I’ve not known prior.  What those issues taught me is that if I am to be emotionally and spiritually healthy, I must be physically healthy.   I mean really, have you ever felt really engaged, productive and focused when you were sick?

In this new awareness I wrote out a paragraph of what my “perfect” life looked like.  I set my goals in order of importance in the following categories.

#1 – Spiritual Health                                                                                                         #2 – Physical Health                                                                                                         #3 – Financial Health                                                                                                         #4 – Professional Health

Since my spiritual wellbeing was of highest importance to me I immediately time-blocked into each day time for spiritual worship and time with family and friends.  I then set about blocking one hour a day for my workout (this time six days a week!)  The difference being, now the work outs are tied to several purposes.

1.  Looking great for my upcoming trip to Maui!                                                              2.  Staying healthy to avoid those nasty health issues I experienced in 2012.  3.  Probably the biggest purpose for staying physically & spiritually healthy is so I am able to make a contribution in the lives of the people within my sphere instead of a withdraw.

Feeling tired, sick and needy all the time is a horrible place to live!

My top priorities had been accommodated after time blocking the daily action items necessary to keep me spiritually & physically healthy.  I then was able to move on and time-block my professional and financial goals.

Having a clear view of my daily agenda and looking at it last night before I went to bed was so exciting to me that I woke up before the alarm went off!  I just couldn’t wait to get to do my blog today!  (But that wasn’t going to happen until 2:00 PM.  So here I am finally and I’ve looked forward to it all day!

I think this is what Jack Canfield is talking about when he talks about happiness is living a life by design!

My first Jazzercise class is at 4:30… I’ll let you know how it goes.
