Ignite Your Personal Power!

Where your focus goes, your energy flows”… Walt Emerson.  I have experimented on his words and can attest they are true!  Could this be the reason we seem to be short of energy most days?  Because it is constantly flowing out of us in a million different directions?  personal power

I believe that we as women are constantly receiving the subtle message that more is required from us.  In many cases we are managing the finances, have primary responsibility for the care and nurture of the children, planning the family vacations, keeping the house, doing the laundry, the grocery shopping, tending the pets, preparing the meals, the yard work and in some cases even running a home based business!

When is enough ever enough?  When we recognize and mobilize our own inner voice that’s when!  Now I’m not talking about selfishness; I’m talking about high levels of achievement on your own terms!

Everyone’s definition of success is different. To some it may be becoming a New York Times best-selling author.  To someone else it may be being a good mother.  To yet another it may be living an authentic life or being a good daughter to aging parents.

My definition of success is achieving your goals (whatever they may be) on your own terms with an authentic expression of who you are.  With so many voices talking to us; it is sometimes hard to hear the most important one… the one who really does have all the answers… our own voice!

It is possible to live a joyful energetic life; counter balancing the myriad of responsibilities we have.  We can even make more money in our businesses if we choose to!

The secret is living a life by design!  A life YOU design and that’s what igniting your personal power is all about!

I’m sharing my journey and the way I achieved my life by design at the upcoming Interactive Women’s Conference at Boise Centre on the Grove, May 11, 2013.  Boise Idaho.  I hope to meet you there!

Shelf Help or Self Help?

It’s been said the biggest disparity in human-kind is between that which we know and that which we do.  I think that’s true.  There is know one more guilty of this than me.  If you could walk into my office you would be stunned at the amount of educational books, cd’s and dvd’s I have stuffing the shelves. In my dream-world I have read them all and applied all the wisdom from between their pages.  In fact, that is my goal!  cotton-tapestry-throw-cat-sleeping-bookshelf

If you aspire to be a high achiever start by recognizing that “a position” cannot make the leader.  The leader makes the position.  It’s not what you have; it’s who you are.  In order to truly succeed at the highest levels we must continually seek to increase our consciousness and improve our awareness.

Jim Rohn said: “Formal education gets you a job; self-education gets you rich!  Profits are better than wages.  Wages make you a living and that’s fine. But profits make you a fortune and that’s super-fine!”

These little gems of philosophy from the masters inspired me to become more in my own life.  I hope they do the same for you.  It’s really as simple as re-allocating your time and becoming intentional around implementing a personal education plan.

I have!  I hope you will too!

Demonizing Human Vice

Do you ever notice? The media loves to demonize human vice! The whole world can go crazy and do whatever they want. They do it in the name of freedom!  Let a person who has accomplished a “higher than average” amount of excellence in some area of their life screw up and watch the media devour them!

When the Tiger Woods scandal hit the entire planet I thought a lot about this. What makes his mistakes and choices any bigger than anyone elses? I finally arrived at the answer:  Nothing!  He’s just a bigger name and that’s the only reason it was news… or as Don Henley says “dirty laundry.”

People who seek excellence and high levels of achievement in their lives push themselves way beyond what they previously saw as their “limits.”   Whatever else they may do wrong, THEY WORK!   As glamorous as it all looks to us, these “over-achievers” often have very demanding, very controlled, disciplined lives.  At some point they just feel like they need a break.  They want to just check out, shut down, turn it off and escape.  This is when over-achievers have the temptation to turn to vice.

Being an over-achiever myself, I understood how this could have happened in Tiger’s life.  I was saddened at his struggle.  As I was considering the terrible public trial he was going through I thought a lot about vice and it’s opposite, Virtue!  Defined as:  behavior showing high moral standards.

What I’ve concluded through my own life experience and the struggles of others is vice provides temporary release and relief and is usually accompanied with remorse, worry and regret.  Virtue creates long-term stability, strengthens relationships, enhances the chances of happiness and a joyful life.  Vice is like a band-aid, virtue heals the wounds.

Beware my friends on your way up.  Don’t forget to always remember your source of personal power and virtue and plug-in daily!

3 Minutes of Regret

seedling-300x285Every new idea or dream is like a seed.  At the beginning of the year I spent several days going back through my journals, goals and vision.  I read all the way to 2009 in an effort to connect with my purpose and gain clarity around my vision.  What I found was that I had known my purpose FOR YEARS!  My heart was heavy with regret and I heard my inner voice asking “Why? Why didn’t you pull the trigger on the achievement of my dreams years ago?”  I gave myself three minutes of regret time and then I started  looking for the lessons.

Here is what I learned:

1.  Every new idea is like a seed. All seeds that grow have an incubation and gestation period. That is what these past years have been for me, my incubation and gestation period.

2.  The more in touch you are with your life’s purpose and the more clarity you have around your vision, the shorter the incubation and gestation time will be.

3.  Having clarity allows you to pull the trigger sooner to launch your dreams and you are more prepared to recognize and seize opportunities that come your way.

Clarity of purpose and vision insures that your seed will grow quickly and grow strong!  It’s a grand accelerator!

Disrespected Brain

Automatic Success MechanismAs students of achievement we are constantly seeking not only knowledge but application of the knowledge we acquire.

With all the blood, sweat and tears I’ve put in to the first 40 days of my “Productivity Challenge” I started to think.  I have worked relentlessly on getting my mind right, figuring out and connecting with my highest purpose (which was no easy task), creating a perfect vision for the life I desire to create and a detailed navigation plan for achieving it.  Now what?

As I was moving through the process of each of these tasks, I realized that this process was not new to me.  I had completed these items before, most recently in 2009.  I was surprised to find that I had achieved some of my desired goals and was well on my way to achieving others.  I was also surprised to see how little my aspirations have changed.  So why am I not further along in the achievement of some of my major goals?  Then it hit me!

I remembered a study I completed of a work called “The New Psycho Cybernetics” by Dr. Maxwell Maltz and Dan S. Kennedy.  In that study they taught about a concept called your “Servo Mechanism.”  The idea is that our brains have the ability and will automatically create our deepest desires (whether they be positive or negative) through what they call our “automatic success mechanism” or our “automatic failure mechanism” depending on how we program it.

Basically what we focus our thoughts on is what our lives will manifest!

So if we buy in to this concept then it makes sense!

The reason I am not further along with my goals is I have not been programming my automatic success mechanism to GO FOR IT!

I completed my purpose and vision statements and even my detailed navigational plan and goals and promptly put them away.  OUCH!  That was my mistake!  So there is the lesson and here is the course correction:

From this day on, I will read through my purpose, vision, goals and plan every day.  (Maybe even twice!)  I will keep them in front of me at my desk and carry them with me wherever I go. In so doing, I will place my intentions clearly into my Servo Mechanism which will automatically and unconsciously pursue their achievement with laser focus.

It is true, a mind is a terrible thing to waste!

Productivity: Rule #2 – The Why In Everything

The Purpose Driven Life book cover

The Purpose Driven Life book cover (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

In my blog on January 29th I wrote about what society calls a “mid-life crisis.” My contention was: “there is no such thing.” I believe when we arrive at this place of, what I like to call, “righteous discontent” it is because our awareness has grown to the point that we begin to seek “purpose.”

Have you ever really thought about the word purpose? Purpose is defined as: “The reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.”

Have you ever just been so tired of the rat race that you look around and think: “What in hell is all of this for?”  If you have, that’s probably a clue that you are desiring a more purposeful existence.

So how do we find and connect with our purpose?  There are two books I would highly recommend if you choose to embark upon this process.  One is “Put Your Dream To The Test” by my mentor, Dr. John C. Maxwell and the other is Chapter Two in “The Success Principles” by Jack Canfield.

Uncovering and connecting with my purpose in life was an emotional journey for me.  Once I could see it clearly, I sorrowed that I had not recognized it sooner.  Knowing your purpose is a powerful motivator; one that will insure you have the tenacity to keep going in spite of all obstacles.  Striving to pursue the fulfillment of your purpose will insure that you have divine assistance in your life from The Grand Overall Designer!

I believe that purpose is a part of our individual creation, that God ultimately made each of us for His purposes and endowed us, during our creation, with His plan for how we will serve him, others and ourselves in this life.  It is in the uncovering, understanding and connecting with that purpose that all things become possible.  I know this is true.

Connecting with our purpose is a process.  It takes soul-searching and asking ourselves sometimes tough questions, but I hope you will.  It’s SO WORTH IT!
